Breaking Frames was founded in 2025 following a meeting between Antonio Aleo, Beatrice Canino and Andrea Canino, with the aim of creating a form of documentary cinema rooted in the Calabrian region, capable of exploring its cultures, communities and ancestral rituals through a demo-ethno-anthropological lens.
The collective works at the intersection of Direct Cinema and Cinéma Vérité, favouring an approach of direct observation that restores authenticity to the contexts depicted, without unnecessary mediation.
Breaking Frames’ approach is based on pure, non-interventionist observation: the camera does not impose a staged narrative, but acts as a silent witness to authentic stories, rituals, memories and human dynamics.
Calabria — its land, its folk rituals, its boundaries between the sacred and the everyday — is the gravitational centre of their visual exploration.
